Every day, an increasing number of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQQ) youth are coming out, challenging homophobia, and improving their communities. Since 1997, the Outlet Program has been a critical source of support and empowerment for these courageous young people by offering professional, caring support services, leadership training, community education and advocacy opportunities in English and Spanish. Outlet serves hundreds of youth and trains thousands of youth-serving professionals each year. As the only local resource for LGBTQQ youth, Outlet positively impacts the lives of teens in our community by reducing isolation, increasing self-esteem, and developing important skills for tomorrow’s adults and leaders.
In 2013, Outlet officially became a program of Adolescent Counseling Services, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Founded in 1975, the mission of Adolescent Counseling Services (ACS) is to empower teens and their families in our community to realize their emotional and social potential through counseling and preventive education. ACS does this through its four community programs: the On-Campus Counseling Program, providing free individual and group counseling at secondary school in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties; the Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Program, providing affordable and professional substance abuse assessment & treatment; the After-School Counseling Program, providing individual and family counseling to all Silicon Valley teens in the afternoon & evening hours; and the Outlet Program, providing support, education, and advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQQ) youth on the Peninsula.
